"The nut doesn't fall far from the tree"
Being offspring of three famous progressive jazz musicians, (especially the pedigree here) can be a lot to live up to but guitarist Julian Coryell (son of guitarist Larry Coryell), drummer Karma Auger (son of organist Brian Auger) and bassist Nicklas Sample (son of pianist Joe Sample from the Crusaders) do their collective legacies proud by carrying the torch of jazz into "the next". Their sound combines the driving, forceful energy of progressive jazz fusion (a foundation for many of today's jambands), smooth and slippery groove funk and contemporary jazz. From what we've heard of CAST this is an instrumental trio (however Julian Coryell is also a mega-talented singer/songwriter) where the individual parts can stand distinctly on their own but shine brightest in the context of the overall sound.
